I came across a new Mitt Romney 2012 campaign ad on Slate today, and I gotta admit that it’s pretty cool. The type, design and vintage homage is pretty…hipster? With fellow-Mormon Republican Jon Huntsman securing the indie crowd, is Mitt trying to compete for the hipster vote…against our most hipster president ever?

Mormonism has so much indie cred now thanks to “Book of Mormon” (and the fact that it’s all-white). Could American exceptionalism be the new vinyl record? Are state-run health care plans the new independent coffee shops?
