Lunchmeat

I'm Cory, and I'm overpopulating the echo chamber.

GW sophomore. Aspiring journalist. Floridian-turned-DCer. Indie music snob. Red Sox diehard. Hopelessly and homosexually romantic. Streaky blogger.

Last two hours on the job.

My summer job is over this afternoon. Every weekday, all summer, from 2 pm until 6 pm, and for $10 an hour, I have been the guardian of the School of Media and Public Affair’s Digital Media Lab.

You need a camera? No problem; I’ve got you.

How about some new batteries? Of course!

An extra pair of headphones or an additional P2 card? You bet.

But, mostly, I’ve just sat at the desk, exercising my brain with books and econ homework — but mostly destroying my brain with Tumblr scrolls and Facebook stalks.

Here’s to a wonderful, air-conditioned summer job. And here’s to going back to Palm Beach County tomorrow (for the first of two consecutive home weekends).

Seersucker Social

On Saturday, I went to a social event at a beautiful estate on the outer part of DC. I say “social event” because it’s a broad term, and I don’t know else what else to call it. It was the Seersucker Social — an afternoon of mingling with DC 20- and 30-somethings clad in vintage clothes, sipping on wine and playing rounds of badminton and croquet.

Cheesy, sure. Fun, yes.

Love was in the air.

Sport was serious.

Picnicking was glorious.

I haven’t really searched for new music lately for some reason. I was kicked off of what.cd awhile ago because supposedly doing major torrenting at GW isn’t a great idea. Plus, my computer crashed in the winter supposedly because of that.

I’m still searching for a leak of Patrick Wolf’s Lupercalia (here’s the single The City, which is poppy as fuck but really summery). If anyone finds one, let me know. Patrick Wolf is second only to Owen Pallett in the world of indie violinist gay heartthrobs. (It’s a crowded field, trust me.)

Anyways, I just downloaded new albums by:

  • Junior Boys
  • Kaiser Chiefs
  • Okkervil River
  • Fleet Foxes

Any other newer releases I should check out or anticipate?

Employment.

Oh, I found employment today. Digital Media Office Assistant in GW’s Media and Public Affairs Building. 2 pm to 6 pm Mon-Fri. $10/hour.

Relaxed, easy environment. Not retail. Not service industry. Win.

Also, still I have the flexibility to try to freelance or start a DC-related feature blog that I’ve had on my brain. And I’m taking a digital media course for my major through the end of June. And maybe an Econ course (my potential minor) after that. Only thing left to do is to bone tons of chicks. Looking forward to the summer. :)

Jenneric arrives on Saturday.  Steven arrives in a couple weeks. Blmnscnt and Emily visit in mid-June. Through the Turnstile visits on my birthdee hopefully! Also want to visit New York City in mid-July to see Tasinski and jasonmalone and my sister. Speakthelanguage better visit too!!! Or else!

D.C. June Events

Here’s an incomplete list of some cool events around D.C/VA/MD early this summer that I want to check out.

Yeasayer - Tightrope

Such a summery song from a band I’ll be seeing this summer in D.C.
